About Prague City Breaks

Prague is the biggest city in all of the Czech Republic, and is therefore, not surprisingly, the capital. The city itself is in central Bohemia on the banks of the river Vlava, and nowadays is home to a population of over 1.2 million city residents. In the metropolitan area, the estimated population is over 1.9 million.

Historical Prague

Prague has a thousand-year history of being the financial centre of the Czech Republic, as well as being its cultural capital and political hub. Because of this, Prague is now home to a huge number of places of interest to visitors and historical sights. During the renaissance, and even as early as the gothic eras, Prague was classed as the centre of the Holy Roman Empire. The reason behind this was that two of the holy Roman Emperors held permanent seats in the city. See our page on Prague history for more about this amazing historical city.

Visiting Prague

Due to its far-reaching and celebrated history, UNESCO has included Prague on its list of World Heritage Sites since 1992. Since then, tourism has been on the rise, making it a very popular destination among some travellers. Each year, over 4.1 million tourists visit the city, and when you look closer, it’s easy to see why.
